Tests and Ben Franklin

We finished our standardised testing today. Many students seemed to feel like the test got a little long, but they worked hard and gave their best effort.

In honor of Constitution Day, we learned about the American Flag this week. I also read a biography of Benjamin Franklin to the class. Ben Franklin signed the Constitution as well as the Declaration of Independence.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

I love to read. I read so much everyday; books, magazines, the Internet. I enjoy reading chapter books to my daughters at home (we hope to finish The Secret Garden by by Frances Hodgson Burnett this evening.)

Reading to my class is probably my favorite aspect of being a teacher. Right now we are reading what has turned out to be one of my favorites; The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. School Library Journal began their review, "This achingly beautiful story shows a true master of writing at her very best." And ended with, "An ever-so-marvelous tale."

I think the students agree. They do not want me to put it down.

NWEA Testing

We finished the NWEA testing. In class we have enjoyed reading books by author Kevin Henkes this week. We will read more Kevin Henkes books next week. We did "Making Meaning" with his book, Shelia Rae the Brave.

I am hoping to have software installed soon, that will enable me to update the class web site more frequently.
