Last week each student in my second grade class ranked their top five favorite chapter books that I read aloud during the school year. I totaled their rankings giving 5 points for a 1st place vote, 4 points for a 2nd place vote, etc.
Here are the results from their rankings. (Sorry for the blank space. Scroll down a ways to see the rankings.)
In the many years that I have done these end-of-year polls, Where the Red Fern Grows has never finished anywhere but first. Although it was way closer this year than usual, probably in part because I just finished Miles to Go. Edward Tulane should have finished higher, but I read it a LONG time ago and I think they kind of forget after a while. Also, many students really enjoyed the Wayside School series, but if I separate the three books it's hard to get consistent votes for them since students are only voting their top five overall books. I don't think lumping the three together gives perfect results though either - it sort of takes away from voting for a certain book. I also read Holes last fall. It must have held up pretty well. Today was an excelant day. Mr. Gall started a new book called The Invention of Hugo Cabret. he read a lot of it. He read 2 chapters of the book. The books has a lot of picters. -Tori's journal

Today we finished Where the Red Fern Grows. It was awsum! -Zack's journal We finished Where the Red Fern Grows. Billy's dogs die. That storie was sad. We had a two hour delay and no school yesterday. -Jessica's journal Today we got a new student. She is cool. Jessica talked to her. She said my name is Jessica. And the new student is named Quintessa. She is pretty nice. We call her Tiffanie. -Dmitri's journal Yesterday we did'it have school. I played the Wii in the morning. I watched Nolan the rest of the day. He was playing fishing turnmont. He has one more turnmot to go until the Bass Masters! -Carter's journal Yesterday we went to the hospital. Because my little bother was sick. He was shaking. But when I higged my little bother the Today we had a two hour delay. It was fun because it was snowing. Yesterday the roads where bad. I played my Playstashin 2. The game was called Smack Down vs Raw 2008. Then my brother came in my room and he started a fite with me. -Lucio's journal On Friday my mom & my little sister surpris me. She brung me a Build-A-Bear Workshop. It's even a dog. It has a nose and he nose songs like this. But I forgot how the song gos. My Build-A-Bear Workshop even had underware. She is pritty and her name is Elie's and Cand. Happy Build-A-Bear Workshop. -Leslie's journal Yesterday we had no school so me, my sister Mikayla and my brother Logan made a snowman. I made the bottom. Mikayla made the mittle and I made the top. I don't know what Logan did. Oh when we where done Mikayla poot her scarf and hat on the snowman. We used wood for the arms. We used a baked potato for the nose and cherrys for the eyes. We did not get to the mouth because my little brother reked it. But we still have the mitle and bottom. Yesterday I had Mackenzie over to play. We where playing on my moms tredmill. We had it on slow and my little brother was sitting on it and.... I poot it on full speed. He went flying off. He got hurt and I started laughing. Oh and when my big sister took me and Mackenzie down to the lake we where sliding and falling. We even slid on our stumick. We took our shoes off and where sliding in our socks. It was fun! Oh and when me and Mackenzie where bord well I have a frig where you poosh a butten and water or ice will come out. Me and Mackenzie where messing with the water and made it come out my nose. It was funny. -Alexis' journal
Today Mr. box came to our class. We are going to hav a new student tomorrow. We rote the word wall words 48 times. It is Dr. Seuss month. -Andrew's journal Tomorrow we are having a new studint and she will be a good and nice girl. She will even be with me and Lizeth cus I don't have any frins. Well I do I just want 3 best frinds. I no she will be nice. I dont now her name but still she is pretty. But Mr. Gall how will you pick? We had a girl who was on the Bremen team & she moved to Penn & she goes to Penn school. I wonder if she's going to be there? One part was about wetting your pants and it made me think of wen my frend Cloe wet her self on the Sizler at the fair. It was relly relly grose. Ok heres how it all happend. Me, my sister and Cloe were on the Sizler and all of a sudin I felt something wet and warm. It was Cloe. She wet her pants and I couldent get out. The seet was sopping wet and the bar was down. We had to suffer with it the hole time untill the ride was over. -Kaitlyn's journal  This is a great manners book. While it is geared toward girls, it has great suggestions for anyone who would like to improve their manners and not just about "accidents." -Mr. Gall Labels: books |
